Spring cleaning may be necessary, but you know what’s even better? Spring REDECORATING!

I’ve teamed up with Pier 1 to give my bedroom a facelift for spring. I’ll be sharing how I decorated my room for spring, to give it a cozy yet minimalistic vibe.

I hope you get inspired by this post to switch around your bedroom and liven it up for spring!

My Bedroom Refresh with Pier 1 Imports

My Bedroom + Style

Before we dive into the decor, let me paint a picture for you of my bedroom. One thing to keep in mind is that it is not big. In any sense of the word. Granted, I am a college student living in Chicago, so space is limited.

However small my room may be, I like to maximize my space and make it feel as inviting as possible. Since I work primarily from home, my bedroom is both my office + cozy space. Working + living in a comfortable space is very important to me!

I wanted to add some flair to my room for spring and add some more texture/variety to my bedroom. As I previously mentioned, I tend to be minimalistic in design, so I stuck to neutral colors for the majority of my decor. I like pops of color to come from greenery/plants in my decor.

The Decor

My bed is my sanctuary, so making it as fluffy + cozy as possible is essential to me. I like to keep my room as light and airy as possible and maximize the small amount of space that I do have. I found some awesome throw pillows from Pier 1 that I used to add texture and spunk to my otherwise minimal bed. And, because I couldn’t resist, I got 2 new white, fluffy down pillows for my bed. They are SO comfortable and make it feel like I’m sleeping on a cloud.

With limited space comes one big problem: where the HECK will all of my stuff go?! Living in the city has taught me that space is precious, and every square foot should be multi-purposed. I have been storing all of my shoes underneath my bed for months, but always hated how messy it looked.

Pier 1 solved this problem for me with their bed skirts, which conveniently conceals all of my shoes. And trust me…I have a lot of shoes.

Perhaps my favorite part of my new room decor are the fairy glimmer lights that hang behind my bed. I don’t have much room for a headboard, but the lights act as a makeshift headboard and frame my bed nicely. Plus, they come with a remote control to turn them on/off, so I never have to even leave the bed to turn them off when I’m falling asleep at night.

I live in a house with 4 other girls, so I constantly have one (or all) of my roommates in my room hanging out. Although I don’t have a lot of physical space, I like to make sure that I have comfortable spaces for people visiting me to sit/hang out.

My brand new rug makes my room feel that more inviting and is a lot more interesting than my plain brown carpeting. Pier 1 also has an awesome pillow selection that I used to my advantage to make more seating on the ground for my guests. The gray pillows you see (above) are also great because they can be used as decor both inside and outside since they are weatherproof.

So…I can’t keep a plant alive to save my life, but luckily Pier 1 has got me covered with their faux plants. My pick was this agave plant because it looks *so* real, (I’ve fooled 2 of my roommates already), and the marble pot it comes in really adds something unique to an otherwise boring corner of my room. I also like the way that the marble pot looks against the exposed white brick here.

The best thing about the weekend for me is undoubtedly, brunch. Nothing makes me happier than trying out new brunch spots with my good friends in the city. The only problem (which really isn’t a problem at all), is that Chicago has a ton of different restaurants to try. While going to a new place for brunch is exciting, there are a few tried-and-true brunches that I always return to. I’ll be sharing the 5 places that I think serve the best brunch in Chicago, and can’t wait to hear from all you babes where you like to brunch 🙂

Are you a Chicago local? Check out my other posts about the Windy City below:

The 5 Best Brunch Spots in Chicago

Best Brunch in Chicago

1. Nookies

Nookies is the spot on this list that my friends and I frequent the most. We live close by to the Halsted location, and the food is just too good to pass up.

Everyone can find something that they like on the menu at Nookies, and the food is made fast and tastes great. I’m more of a sweet breakfast person rather than savory, but my friends who like omelets/skillets/meat for breakfast always leave here happy while I can still get my french toast 🙂

My favorite thing to order: Belgian Waffle with Strawberries + Bacon 🙂

2. Melrose Diner

This place is honestly such a hidden gem. I love the interior decor of this place (marble tabletops!) and the vibe. It’s not your typical diner, and the food is out of this world.

Melrose also has a great outdoor patio which is perfect for those upcoming spring/summer weekends. It’s also a BYOB diner which is a plus.

My favorite thing to order: Lemon Blueberry Pancakes. Buuuut, I’m definitely trying the Coconut Toasted French Toast next time I visit!

3. Ann Sather

Honestly I had to put Ann Sather on this list for one menu item only: cinnamon rolls. I’m gonna insert a picture below just so that you can see what I’m talking about.

If you know me at all, you know that I am absolutely obsessed with cinnamon rolls. They are my guilty pleasure and my biggest weakness. Ann Sather has some of the best cinnamon rolls I’ve ever tasted, and I can’t get enough of them.

This place is usually pretty busy whenever I go, but there are several locations all over the city, so it could be different.

My favorite thing to order: Duh…cinnamon rolls.

4. LOKaL

I randomly stumbled upon LOKaL my freshman year of college and have been in love with it ever since. LOKaL has two locations – one in Lincoln Park, and one in Wicker Park.

What I love the most about this breakfast spot is that the two locations have two totally different feels. The Lincoln Park location is a lot more spacious, quiet, and toned-down. It’s perfect to go with a friend that you want to catch up with and be able to actually hear each other. On the other hand, the Wicker Park location is upbeat, crowded (in a good way), and fun. They play great throwback and current hip-hop jams at the Wicker Park location, and it’s loud.

I love both locations for different reasons, but the food is awesome. I recommend getting a reservation via calling or OpentTable at either location as they get super busy on the weekends!

My favorite thing to order: French toast + side of potatoes

If you’ve been around my blog for some time now, you’ve probably heard me talk about Opinion Outpost or at least mention it. I’m a big fan of Opinion Outpost and have been using it for years now. However, I understand that some people are not familiar with the website and want me to explain the concept further and give my own Opinion Outpost review.

In this post, you will get my honest review of the website, coming from someone who actually uses the site. You can also learn more about the process for getting paid through Opinion Outpost/how it really works.

My Honest Opinion Outpost Review

Opinion Outpost Review

Make money for giving your opinions online sounds too good to be true…right? Wrong.

I can honestly say, from personal experience, that Opinion Outpost is a legitimate thing, and that if you take the opportunity to sign up and take surveys, you will eventually make money. I’ve recommended this website to my own personal friends and family. I started using the website when I was still in high school and wanting to make some extra money online for spending on the weekends. I liked the website so much because it allowed me to fill out the surveys in my free time, and I could do it from my bed since it’s all online 🙂 The following Opinion Outpost review + FAQ is written from my view only.

How much does it cost?

Joining Opinion Outpost is completely free for users to join, and sign up is easy! Once you join, you will be asked to take a “Welcome Survey” that asks questions about you in order for the website to help you be perfectly matched up to surveys.

Tip: Make sure to check your email’s spam folder after signing up in case the confirmation email is sent there

How much money can I earn from Opinion Outpost?

The amount of money that you end up earning is completely up to you and how much time you want to dedicate to it. The minimum cash out to PayPal from Opinion Outpost is $10, which equates to 100 points. I would usually complete 10-15 surveys a week and have enough points to cash out to PayPal by the end of the week.

Another thing to consider is that you will not always qualify for surveys. This can be frustrating, but Opinion Outpost is looking for a very “certain” type of person for some of their surveys. For example, they may be looking for females, over the age of 35, looking to buy a house in the next 6-12 months. If that doesn’t sound like you, you aren’t going to be recruited for surveys. Some people may get more chances and opportunities to complete surveys, simply because of their demographic.

What kind of payout can I get?

You can be paid out in a variety of different ways, including PayPal, Visa cards, Amazon and iTunes gift cards, and more. My favorite way to get paid out is with PayyPal because I can get the money transferred into my bank account to spend on anything within just a few days.

How does it work?

Businesses all over the world are constantly looking for opinions and pain-points in their product/services in order to improve the experience and brand image. They need consumers, like you and me, in order to get helpful and genuine feedback. That’s where Opinion Outpost comes in.

When you complete surveys about different product/services, businesses take the feedback and data they collected and use it to develop future marketing campaigns and more. Taking surveys gives you an opportunity to voice your opinions and feelings towards different brands, while also giving you an opportunity to make money. If you’ve ever heard of a focus group, this is the same type of concept.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit a Chicago hair salon called George the Salon in order to try out a new service they offer. The service is called the Digital Detox and I’m here to review the service and go more into detail about my experience!

George the Salon: My Digital Detox Experience

I got to visit the salon on a Saturday morning, and let me tell you…it’s beautiful. George the Salon is located in the Gold Coast, (which is already gorgeous), and I felt like a queen even just being at the salon.

Everyone who worked at the salon seemed super nice and friendly, offering me coffee/tea/water and were making sure I was comfortable and well taken care of. I waited for my appointment in the little waiting area, and then when it was time, Jodi came and got me!

Jodi is the woman who gave me my massage, and she was also friendly and delightful to be around. She always made sure I was comfortable, before, during and even after the massage. She really made my experience amazing and the massage itself was to die for.

While the salon offers different types of massages, I was there specifically to try out The Digital Detox massage. The Digital Detox massage concentrates on the upper body for 25 or 55-minute sessions, working out the tension in your scalp, jaw, temples, face, neck, and shoulders, while moving out to arms, hands, and fingers.

This massage was perfect for me because of how Internet and tech-based my life is. Since I work from my laptop as a freelancer, I am constantly online and hunched over my work. Jodi helped work on trouble spots and muscles that get overworked and overused when we use our laptops/phones/etc. I was so relaxed and zen during the massage that I probably could’ve fallen asleep!

I felt amazing after the massage and my shoulders/neck felt a lot less tense. Jodi gave me some tips and tricks I can use at home to help relieve tension in my upper body from always being online, which I really appreciated it.

I truly didn’t want my experience and time at George the Salon to end, and I can’t wait to go back sometime soon to see the staff and especially Jodi. I would like to personally thank George the Salon for allowing me to try out the Digital Detox and for being so hospitable!

If you are interested in the massage I got, or even just George the Salon, click here to be taken to their website and learn more.  Click here to read all of George the Salon’s Yelp reviews. Appointments are available for the massage and I would DEFINITELY recommend this Chicago hair salon.
