I was lying awake in my bed last night (I am a huge night owl) and had an idea hit me. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see food + drinks in my IG Stories all the time. I have a big love for food, but have never really been a “food blogger” and don’t have too many recipes I would ever feel like sharing. However, eating out or grabbing a meal with a friend in the city is one of my favorite things to do. And I want to give more attention to the restaurants + food I try out than just a quick snap on Instagram stories. So, I’ve decided to start a new series called “#EmmaEats”, where I share my favorite eats from the month on the blog.
I normally will be posting these blogs towards the beginning of a new month so that the meals are more fresh on my mind. However, I didn’t want to miss out on May since it was such a good month of eating 😂 So, I’m posting May’s #EmmaEats now, in the middle of June.
Every month for #EmmaEats, I’ll be sharing the 3-5 meals/eats that were my most favorite. Without further ado, let’s get into May’s #EmmaEats.
1. White Lotus Roll at Katana Sushi & Restaurant
Location: Hotel Chicago 339 North Dearborn Street Chicago, IL 60654
Oh. My. Gosh. I literally cannot stop thinking about this sushi roll I had at Katana.
In May, my friend Caitlin (@caitpatton) and I headed over to Katana for an early dinner. We ordered lots of things from the menu and went with a lot of our server’s recommendations since we had never been there before. We tried things off both the Robata Grill and Sushi Bar. However, the White Lotus Roll was my absolute FAVORITE thing I had there.
First of all, the sushi itself was insanely beautiful (something I never thought I’d say about sushi.) The White Lotus Roll contained shrimp tempura, avocado, asparagus, salmon, crispy onions. YUM. You seriously need to check it out.
2. Raviolo al Proscuitto
Location: 43 E Ohio St, Chicago, IL 60611
A new pasta bar called “Ravioli & Co.” opened on the first floor of Eataly downtown and I had the chance to check it out with a friend last month. I love the concept of the pasta bar: it’s fresh pasta made in-house and cooked to order off the menu. Plus, every pasta dish comes with a wine pairing recommendation (who can say no to a good glass of vino?!)
I tried out the Raviolo al Proscuitto and it was too good. The dish itself is prosciutto stuffed pasta, light butter sauce, and Parmigiano Reggiano. It sounds super simple (it is), but it went together beautifully. I have always been a big fan of prosciutto, and the butter sauce made the pasta melt in your mouth. My dish was paired with a glass of Certosa di Belriguardo Chianti.
We also topped off our pasta + wine off with a fresh, chocolate cannoli from Eataly. No regrets.
3. Strike a Posner Pizza
938 W Webster Ave, Chicago, IL 60614
Because I’m a Lakeview/Lincoln Park dweller, I usually meet friends for food in the neighborhood. HomeSlice has been one of my favorite Lincoln Park spots since I moved to Chicago, and I have some great memories there.
I tried the ‘Strike a Posner’ Pizza recently for the first time at HomeSlice and was not disappointed. The pizza was made with romas, sun-dried tomatoes, mozzarella, provolone, parmesan & pesto. I almost polished off the whole pizza myself but thankfully decided to take a piece or two home as leftovers.
