Let’s be real – quarantine has given me *a lot* more downtime than I’m used to. Especially since I decided to quarantine with my family back in Ohio, I’m away from the hustle and bustle of the city and things have gotten to be quite slooooooow.
With all the extra time on my hands, I’ve really tried to embrace the change of pace and use it as a time to reset and recharge. I’m a big introvert, so I’m used to the idea of withdrawing myself and taking a breather…in fact, for me, recharging is very necessary and helps me get realigned so I can show up as my best self.
One of my favorite things to do when I’m alone is to read. I grew up in a family where reading was very much encouraged. In my family, it’s not uncommon for us to skip a night of watching TV/movies to instead read a good book and we’re always passing books around.
Quarantine has definitely added fuel to fire in terms of my reading and I’ve found myself flying through books. I asked on my Instagram stories if you all would want a post about what I’ve been reading lately and the response was a yes, so here we are.
Without further ado, here are some of my recent book recommendations. However, I’m literally *always* looking for my next book to read, so if you have a good recommendation, please leave it in the comments for me or send me a DM! I’d love to hear.
✧ Diana: Death of a Goddess by David Cohen
I’ve always been somewhat fascinated by the Royal family and Princess Diana especially (her fashion is 90’s GOLD.)
This book was a page-turner for me as it dove into conspiracies that surround the death of Princess Diana and what *really* happened the night of her death in Paris. It was also fascinating to learn about the French and British judicial system and how the case was handled/mishandled. This book has so. much. juicy. tea. and it’s a must-read for anyone who likes pop culture/the Royals.
✧ Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson
I decided to read this book after seeing all of the buzz for the movie being released in 2019 (is anyone else like that? I always prefer to read the book before watching the move.)
This book is amazing – but tough to get through because of how upsetting the stories of injustice are. However, I do think everyone should read this book and know about the incredible work lawyers like Bryan Stevenson commit their lives to. Bryan’s writing is so beautiful and by the end of the book, you will love him and his huge heart for people.
✧ Crushing It! by Gary Vaynerchuk
Personal development books and books centered around entrepreneurship might be my favorite type of book to read. This book by Gary Vaynerchuk is AMAZING and literally might be one of my new favorites.
Being in the entrepreneurial space, I have heard about Gary V. for years and might’ve even watched a video or two of his. However, I hadn’t read his first book and decided to read Crushing It! sort of on a whim. And WOW, am I glad I did. This book is literally jam-packed with value for business owners in the age of social media and digital marketing. I literally can’t enough stress how many takeaways I got from reading this book and I love Gary’s no-excuses attitude.
✧ The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
I am the biggest baby ever when it comes to anything remotely scary. Like, I think I’ve watched 2 scary movies in my entire existence. That being said, I do love a good thriller, as long as it doesn’t keep me up at night.
This book achieved the perfect balance and I read it in about 2 days because I just had to know how it was going to end. It gave me big Gone Girl vibes, which I loved.
So, those are the books that have been keeping me company lately in quarantine. Make sure to leave your best book recommendations in a comment below! I want to know which books to put on my “to-read” list.
