I’ve wanted to write a post with all the juicy details of my night routine for a while now, because I take my night routine very seriously. It’s a bit embarrassing how many steps there are to it and it’s just way too much to pack into an Instagram story (although I do share about it on my Instagram from time to time!)
I take my night routine seriously and am so methodical about it because my sleep is super important to me. I’ve always been someone who needs at least 9 hours of sleep a night – 10 is ideal ๐
I know it sounds crazy – but I literally can’t function without a full night’s sleep. It’s been like this my whole life – my mom said I came home from the hospital after being born and slept the whole night through. (So hilarious – she said she was worried something was wrong with me because I slept so much.)
In order for me to get “into the zone” and drift off to sleep, a few very critical steps have to happen. I’m sharing them all in this post and hopefully you can pick up a tip or two from me!
All the products I mentioned will also be hyperlinked, so you can click on anything I mention and order straight from Amazon. I also have my own Amazon storefront curated with my favorite products that you can visit here. I made sure to go into painstaking detail in this post and am only mentioning the products I truly love and use myself on a daily basis.
Let’s get into it!
Skincare
The first step in my night routine is my skincare routine. I’ve always been a skincare-junkie, and my night routine is no exception to the obsession.
I do like to switch up the products I use periodically since I feel like my skin can almost become immune to products sometimes, and as a blogger, I also get sent different products from brands to try out. However, I do have some skincare staples that I never shy away from and are my ride-or-dies.
Here’s what my current nighttime routine looks like:
- Cleanse face with my Clarisonic Mia face brush and Soap and Glory Vitamin C Face Wash (I always use my Clarisonic when cleansing, it’s such a game-changer. Really makes you feel like you’re getting a deep-down clean.)
- Tone face with Pixi Glow Tonic on a cotton ball (this has a cult following and for good reason. I love the glow it gives my skin and it’s also affordable.)
- Apply IMAGE Skincare Intense Brightening Serum to my acne scars on cheeks/chin.
- If I have an active breakout, I apply an acne patch (my lifesaver – clears up and removes redness from any spot by morning.)
- Moisturize with Rosehip Oil for my facial massage (see below)
- Spritz face with Mario Badescu Rose Facial Spray (I always have this on me! So refreshing and makes me feel like I’m at the spa.)
After all of my skincare products soak in, I use my Jade Gua Sha to give myself a facial massage. I love my Gua Sha because it helps with lymphatic drainage and helps make my face look and feel more contoured. (You can also use it on other parts of your body as a massage tool – I like to use mine on the tops of my shoulders/neck for tension after working on my laptop all day.
Personal Hygiene
After completing my skincare routine, I brush my teeth with my electric toothbrush and scrape my tongue (if you aren’t doing this…we need to talk about your oral hygiene.) I then floss my teeth and even apply a whitening strip if I’m feeling up to it/have the time before bed.
Winding Down
After my facial massage, I head into the kitchen to make myself a cup of tea before bed. I’m a big “beverage” person – I basically drink iced coffee/water all day until it’s time for happy hour.
Within the past year I’ve gotten back into the habit of drinking tea and love the calming effect it has. I’m not too specific on which tea I have before bed – usually, it’s Yogi Tea’s Ginger because I love the taste and it helps with digestion. Lately, I’ve also been putting a few drops of THC-free CBD oil into my tea at night-time, too.
When I go into my bedroom, I try as hard as I can to stay off my electronics (phone and laptop.) However, sometimes I want to watch an episode of something on Netflix, and if that’s the case, then I make sure I’m wearing my blue-light glasses. I got my super cute pair off Amazon and love how they block out blue-light (which can interfere with your sleep cycle.)
When watching a TV show before bed, I also like to diffuse some lavender essential oil in my bedroom using my diffuser (always lavender – it’s so calming.)
When I’m in my bed and ready to go to sleep, I make sure to do these few last things before laying my head down on the pillow:
- Spritz my pillowcase with my favorite lavender-scented antibacterial spray (dirty pillowcases can cause bacteria to build-up and breakouts to occur, so I spray my pillowcase every night in between washes.)
- Apply my favorite Sally Hansen Vitamin E Oil to my nails/cuticles
- Apply a thick layer of Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask to my lips (can’t live without this product…seriously.)
- Coat my lashes and lash line with the Rimmel Lash Accelerator serum (helps your lashes to grow and thicken overnight!)
- Lather my hands with my favorite hand cream (current favorite is Barr-Co. Fine Cream)
Lastly, I turn on ocean waves sounds or rain/river noises on my iPhone. I can’t sleep without there being some sort of white noise – I live in the city so I need to drown out the sirens and general noise outside. My favorite app to use for soundscapes is called “Insight Timer” – it’s free in the App Store and has lots of soundscapes and meditations to pick from.
Then, I’m off to a restful night’s sleep! I warned you all…I know it’s very extra! But, it’s what works for me.
