As some of you may know, I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio. I love Cleveland so much, and while I currently live in Chicago, I’ll always think of Cleveland as my home. Last weekend, I got the opportunity to travel home to Cleveland and spend time with my family. I had such a blast and it’s always nice to get away from the city sometimes. Plus, I just went through midterms, and definitely needed a break! This post details my time back home and tell of some of my favorite things to do in Cleveland.

I’m also sharing an exciting opportunity and contest with you all at the end of this post with Megabus!

My Favorite Things To Do in Cleveland

One of my favorite feelings in the world is when I’m riding the Megabus, after a long 6-7 hour ride, and we finally pull into Cleveland. I love knowing that I am “home”, and seeing the familiar skyline. I’m sharing all of my favorite things to do in Cleveland below so you can maybe try them out if you get to visit.

West Side Market

The West Side Market is in Ohio City and has been around since 1912 (say what?) There are TONS of vendors at the market that sell everything from baked goods, to fresh meats, etc.

I love going to the West Side Market to grab something yummy (macaroons, croissants, fresh brewed coffee). It’s also fun to just walk around and see all the different things that are sold (and usually, made) right in Cleveland.

Here is a couple of photos from the market:

TownHall

I love this restaurant in the heart of Ohio City and on West 25th street. TownHall is a restaurant that supports and serves Non-GMO food. The food is absolutely DELICIOUS and fuels you with clean and healthy food.

Some of my favorite things to get at TownHall are the Kickstarter coffee, food truck tacos, and Thai peanut bowl. Check out TownHall’s menu here. Literally, everything on the menu in TownHall is amazing. Trust me.

The Q/Cleveland Cavaliers

If you know me at all, you know that I am a huge Cleveland Cavalier’s fan. Basketball is my favorite sport to watch and I absolutely love my home team (and Kyrie Irving.)

If you’re looking for something fun and exciting to do in Cleveland, check out the sports scene. I was able to go to the Cavs/Denver Nuggets game last weekend with my mom, and it was a blast. The energy is electrifying at the arena and being a part of a big fan-base is a great feeling. I love being in the presence of some of the world’s most accomplished athletes (hello, LBJ) 🙂 Attending a Cavs game is definitely one of my favorite things to do in Cleveland.

And then some…

While I was home, I also took my mom out to get a pedicure with me. I love pampering and treating the people closest to me, and getting a pedicure is one of my favorite things to do in Cleveland (or really, anywhere.) We headed to get our nails done on Saturday morning.

So…what is a Megabus?

As I previously mentioned in this post, I took the Megabus last weekend to travel to Cleveland. I regularly take the Megabus to save money on traveling and find it takes the stress out of getting home.

Megabus is a service that I have been using ever since I first moved away from home to Chicago. They offer low-cost and inexpensive travel from city-to-city that is safe and convenient. Megabus is currently in over 100 different cities in North America, which I love! (See if they have your city here.) I’ve taken the Megabus many times myself traveling from college back home, and other members of my family take the Megabus when traveling, also.

What I love most about Megabus is how easy it is. I can easily book my Megabus ticket on my laptop (or on my smartphone). It’s a lot easier than booking a plane ticket or other alternatives. Plus, Megabus buses are awesome because they provide Free Wifi on board, and have power outlets! This is super convenient, as I usually can get homework done while I’m on the bus or update the blog 🙂

Marry Me on a Megabus

Being a young person in today’s world is sometimes confusing, stressful, and overwhelming. Personally, I rely on my faith as a Christian to keep me grounded and help me handle my everyday life. My Bible has become sort of a road map to my life, and I constantly find myself looking forward to the time I get to spend in the Word studying what God is saying to me.

However, I understand how big and scary the Bible can seem sometimes. I used to really struggle with just where to start, and how I could spend time reading the Word on an everyday basis. With a little help from my church and friends, I’ve gotten advice and found some resources that help me to dive into the Word and study the Bible on a regular basis.

Maybe you are currently in that situation. Below are some Bible verses that explain just how vital reading your Bible daily is that helped me to focus my energy on this aspect of my Christianity.

Psalm 119:11 “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

Job 23:12 “I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food.”

John 15:7 “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

Job treasured the Bible and God’s word more than food because she understood that the Bible gave her eternal life and motivation to face every day. I love that.

I’ve compiled some of my favorite bible study tools for young women below. All of these resources are things that I personally use in my own walk with the Lord and have found to be extremely helpful. I hope they accomplish the same thing for you.

Bible Study Tools for Women

My Favorite Bible Study Tools + Resources for Young Women

1. Christian Books

There is no shortage of Christian books out there! I have read a decent amount of books but I feel like I’ve barely scraped the surface of all the resources and bible study tools out there. I love having a great book to read right before I head off to sleep to refocus and spend time with God before I close out the day.

Some of my favorite Christian books I’ve read so far are:

You can seriously get lost in the Christian books section of any bookstore (or Amazon.com) I love reading books by people from all walks of life, from all over the globe, but all serving the same God. There is a book for any season of life you may be going through. It’s also fun to trade books with girlfriends and family members to help each other in their walk. I have a couple friends that often recommend me books to watch, and I love knowing they want to share with me.

*If you have a Christian book suggestion, please comment and tell me about it! I am always looking for something new to read.*

2. She Reads Truth

If you don’t use She Reads Truth already…please stop reading this blog post right now and go get hip. She Reads Truth is a resource that has greatly impacted my own personal walk with God this year.

She Reads Truth is a website with daily devotionals written in the form of a short blog post, with bible readings linked to the post. There is also room for other women to comment on the daily devotional and discuss the study with each other. She Reads Truth is also an app, and they also have a store where you can purchase some studies in physical book form.

Before this year at college, I struggled a lot with spending time daily in the Word. I prayed to God throughout the day, but days would go by without me reading my Bible. I felt disconnected from God’s commands and empty.

She Reads Truth has helped me to get into a daily routine of reading the Word and getting my daily bread. I absolutely love the devotionals that SRT offers, and frequently find myself forwarding messages to my mom because of just how good they are. Below are some Bible verses that explain just how vital reading your Bible daily is.

She Reads Truth Bible Study Tools

The comment section of SRT is a place for women from all over and come together and lay their burdens on each other openly, and it’s great. Personally, I love reading and knowing what is going on with my fellow Christian sisters, regardless of whether I know them in my daily life.

I absolutely love this Bible study tool and how relevant it is to my current season of life.

3. Holy Bible App

I originally got this free app as a resource to have on the go, so that I could have access to the entire Bible on the go. However, this app is has a lot more to offer than just the Bible itself and has become one of my favorite Bible study tools. I have found some GREAT studies in this app, and love the simple layout of it. The app also makes it super easy to highlight and bookmark texts and even single verses to revisit later.

I particularly like the “Verse of the Day” image, which is exactly what it sounds like. I am a visual learner, and seeing the Word of God in a pretty, aesthetically pleasing image is really helpful for me. The pictures can also be saved and used as phone lock screens, which I like! You can browse through the Bible app’s studies by category, like Dating, Anxiety, Jealousy and more. There are tons of studies in this app…I doubt you will ever get bored or run out of content here.

It’s that time of year when high-school seniors are touring colleges all over the nation, in search of which school they will end up at next year. This time of year is so stressful for many, and the idea of finding college scholarships can only add to that stress. Finding scholarships for college should not be taking up all of your time!

I have rounded up all of my best tips and resources for finding scholarships. I spent a lot of time my own senior year looking for scholarships, and got pretty good at it in the process! So learn from my success (and mistakes!) and let’s find you those precious scholarships!

How to Find Scholarships

Resources to Find College Scholarships

Check with Your Guidance Counselor

The first place you should look for scholarship opportunities is with your own high school guidance counselor. My guidance counselor in high school gave me a HUGE packet of scholarships that I could possibly apply to. The great thing about this resource is that most of these scholarships are local, meaning that they come from organizations and corporations in your high school’s town. Having knowledge of these scholarships put you at an advantage against some of your peers who may not think to ask their guidance counselor about local scholarships.

Unigo

Unigo is a great online resource for finding scholarships. The website exists as a hub for scholarships, and you can log on to browse all of the opportunities and find some that may fit you. The possibilities are really endless on Unigo. You can even create a profile on Unigo to use that will match you to the best scholarships based on your profile.

Scholarships for High School Seniors Unigo

Another thing I like about Unigo is that you can browse the scholarships by category (see picture above.) Unigo has scholarships that you can search for by your current state, major, and more. Don’t miss out!

Tip: New scholarships are released pretty much every day. Don’t check online for scholarships once and think that is enough! I would recommend checking once a week for any new opportunities.

College Visits

Another great way to find out about scholarships as a high school senior is to meet with someone from the financial aid office when you are on a college campus visit. The financial aid office at colleges expects these meetings to happen and should be more than happy to meet with you, a prospective student, about the real cost of attending their school/university.

Email the school you are visiting ahead of time and inquire about the possibility of setting up an appointment during your visit of the school with the financial aid office. Once you solidify a time, make sure to come up with some questions that you would like to get answered when you visit. Does the school offer any specialized scholarships? What advice do they have for getting scholarships to attend their school? Be respectful + they should be happy to help!

Family Employment

Check with your parent’s employer to see if they offer scholarships for high school seniors! This is often overlooked and it’s a shame because it really is right under your nose. If you don’t feel comfortable or don’t know how to find about scholarships, ask your parents if they would be willing to get you in contact with someone at their work or ask a supervisor themselves.

Tips for Applying to Scholarships

Give it Your All

Scholarships are tricky because, a lot of the time, it’s out of your hands whether or not you will get the scholarship in the end. To help your odds, make sure that you are giving your scholarship applications 100%. Whether it’s just a questionnaire or a long-form essay, make sure that you are trying to convey the best version of yourself. Don’t blow off any application or think you will “never be selected”…you just never know!

Make a Shortlist

Finding college scholarships to apply to can be overwhelming, but once you do find a handful of scholarships to apply to, make a shortlist. Keep a list of the scholarship name, due date, and requirements so that you don’t miss any part of what’s required. Doing this will help you feel less overwhelmed with keeping all the information straight. It’s a life-saver!

Apply to Many

When I was a high school senior, I probably applied to 10-15 different scholarships. These scholarships were a mix of local and national scholarships, but that didn’t matter to me. Apply to as many scholarships you can, to help boost your chances of being selected for at least one. Don’t be lazy with your college scholarship applications…you will kick yourself for not putting more effort in when you see all of your classmates getting scholarship money!

No-Fuss Skin Care Routine for 2017

I’m about to let you in on a little secret about me. I have had the most terrible, rough time with my skin. Seriously. All throughout my teenage years, I was constantly battling with acne-prone, oily skin.

I’ve tried almost every skin care system and treatment on the market. I’ve visited dermatologists, taken oral antibacterial pills, tried Proactiv…the list goes on. My skin is extremely finicky and breaks out with no warning and is hard to clear up. Enter in BioClarity, a new naturally derived skincare 3-step system I’ve been trying out. Below you will find my BioClarity review!

BioClarity Acne Review

BioClarity harnesses all of the amazing nutrients that are out in nature and packs them into simple skin care products. The products are also vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free. Yay for protecting animals!

One thing I love most about my new BioClarity skincare is the fact that I am confident that it is actually good for my skin because it is naturally derived. It doesn’t have harsh chemicals in it that could potentially dry out my skin and mess with my oily/combo skin.

The Skin Care Routine + System

My BioClarity skin care routine consists of three simple steps:

  • Step 1 – Cleanser (main ingredients: Green Tea, Chamomile, Cucumber)
  • Step 2 – Treatment (main ingredients: Oat Kernel, Salicylic Acid)
  • Step 3 – Restore Gel (main ingredients: Floralux, Licorice Root)

BioClarity Floralux Skincare Review

I love the restore gel because it comes out of the tube a dark green color (which makes applying it fun!) It makes my face feel super refreshed and soothed.

The Benefits of BioClarity

BioClarity is clinically proven to fight acne, soothe skin, reduce pore size, minimize redness, and even out the skin tone. That’s music to my ears, especially because I struggle a lot with large pores on my T-zone, and frequently experience breakouts.

BioClarity Cleanser

BioClarity products combine the power of prescription-grade salicylic acid and regenerative and restorative Floralux – a new and unique naturally-derived ingredient from chlorophyll (the green stuff in plants) rather than using benzoyl peroxide to target breakouts (which is known to cause redness, dryness, and irritation.)

My BioClarity Review

Personally, I really liked the skincare system and did not find that the products irritated my combo/oily skin. My skin has not broken out since using BioClarity, and I really like the 3-step regimen. The products do smell a little too earthy for my liking, but I guess that’s the price you pay when you get naturally-derived products! The awesome ingredients is worth the smell to me.
