The holidays are quickly approaching and you know what that means…it’s the most wonderful time of the year 😉 I know that college-aged girls can be hard to shop for sometimes, so I decided to compile a gift guide of some items I would love to receive (I’m a college sophomore).

Of course, the holidays are about so much more than giving and receiving gifts. I can’t wait to celebrate with family I haven’t seen in awhile, and give thanks for all 2017 has been!

Need some extra cash for shopping this holiday season? Check out how I made an extra $250 in one month here.

Without further ado, let’s get into the gift guide!

Holiday Gift Guide for a College-Aged Girl

APARTMENT DECOR

Apartment decor is something that all college-aged girls love, but sometimes don’t want to spend their extra money on.

Get to know the girl you are buying for, and what her decor style is like. Does she like minimalistic, neutral colors? Or is she more free-spirited and bohemian?

My favorite idea for giving apartment decor as a gift is super cute throw pillows. They aren’t too expensive and add a fun touch to any room. Your college-aged girl will love getting a new piece to add to her decor. Looking to buy a gift for a college age girl this holiday season? This fur pillow (pictured right) is only $10 and so fun! It’s the perfect gift for a secret Santa or friend gift exchange.

Another awesome gift idea for college age girls is candles. A lot of colleges don’t allow candles in dorms, so double check or make sure she has an apartment before you buy. One of my favorite scents is Volcano. They sell it at Anthropologie too and it smells too good. You can find it here.

Looking for a stocking stuffer? I really love firefly lights for apartment decor (pictured to the right). Looking to buy a gift for a college age girl this holiday season? If you haven’t found anything yet, I’ll picture some more of my favorite picks for apartment decor gifts below.

A FEW OTHER FAVORITES…

Bedding

Looking to really impress? Check out my favorite duvets and bedding for this holiday season. Getting a fluffy new blanket or a clean new duvet is ideal for the home decor junkie.

Kitchenwares

Want the key to her heart? Buy her a Nespresso. Coffee = love.

Pretty pastel colored kitchenwares and monogrammed coffee mugs are a classic go-to for the holiday season. Anything for the kitchen is a great gift idea for the college-aged girl who is just starting to cook for herself.

Wall Art

A pretty mirror or tapestry spices up any apartment and isn’t too expensive. Check out my favorite picks from places like Urban Outfitters + more for the girl on your list!

CLOTHING/ACCESSORIES

Shoes

Receiving a pretty pair of heels/booties for the holidays is the best. O

bviously, before you buy shoes for someone make sure you know their exact size and whether they have wide/narrow feet. Also, if you are buying for them online, check the website’s/brand’s size guide to see if their shoes typically run small or large!

I’m seriously crushing over these Jeffrey Campbell booties with silver detailing. Black boots are a staple for winter and I think every girl deserves a pretty pair.Looking to buy a gift for a college age girl this holiday season? Ugg slippers are very popular for the holiday season because they are so cozy and comfy. These slippers are right around $99 and make the perfect gift for really anyone on your list!

A FEW OTHER FAVORITES…

TECH

Tech gifts are getting more popular with each passing year. When buying tech gifts, make sure you know the model of the phone your college-aged girl has (iPhone 5? 6? Android?) before buying. Below is my tech gift guide for the holidays!

This charging dock can charge several different types of iPhones, iPods/Tablets, and more. It’s the perfect gift for a college-aged girl who wants to keep all of her cords organized and keep her devices charged!

Another great idea is a record player. I personally love my record player Looking to buy a gift for a college age girl this holiday season? Check out Emma Lenhart's gift guide on the blog for tons of ideas for this Christmas/holiday season!and receiving new vinyl albums to play for my friends. This  record player is under $40 and the perfect price point for a holiday gift!

A FEW OTHER FAVORITES…

GIFTS $25 OR UNDER

If you are buying for a secret Santa, $25 is usually a good price point to stay under. I’ve come up with a small gift guide below for gifts that are all $25 or under!

Looking to buy a gift for a college age girl this holiday season? Check out Emma Lenhart's gift guide on the blog for tons of ideas for this Christmas/holiday season! One of my go-to gifts for friends is a Soap & Glory gift set. The brand has the cutest packaging ever and the quality of the products is great. (You can find their products at Ulta/Walgreens, also.)

Another idea for a gift exchange is a rollerball perfume. This idea is great because you may not want to buy a full-sized perfume bottle for someone if you aren’t sure if they will love the scent. Rollerballs are so fun and a great way to test out different brands.Looking to buy a gift for a college age girl this holiday season? You can never go wrong with an Amazon gift card for the holidays. Gift cards are perfect if you don’t know the person you are buying for very well because they will get to pick out their own gift.

Halloween is coming up in less than a week, eeek! I must admit, I still do not know what I’m being for Halloween this year. However, I do have a ton of last-minute DIY Halloween costume ideas that I have used in the past that I keep up my sleeve for emergency situations.

Save your money this Halloween by creating your own DIY Halloween costume with items you (probably) already have in your closet.

DIY Halloween Costume Ideas

SANDY OLSON FROM GREASE

Grease is one of my all-time favorite movies, and Sandy makes a great last-minute costume. There are a couple different options for Sandy: you could be the innocent Sandy from the beginning of the movie, the Pink Lady Sandy, or the closing scene Sandy.

I was Sandy in the past and was the closing scene character (see this thread for a better idea of what I’m talking about).

For this look, you will need: black skin tight disco pants, an off-the-shoulder Bardot top, curly hair, red heels, and a fake cigarette adds a nice touch too.

Want to take this costume to the next level? Grab your boyfriend/significant other/guy friend and have them be Danny Zuko. Tell me about it, stud!

BANK ROBBER/BANDIT

This costume is so easy, it’s tempting me to be it this Halloween. All you need for this costume is a black and white striped top, black jeans or leggings, black gloves, and a black eye mask.

I also love the idea of this being a couple’s costume. Grab a best friend and dress alike, and suddenly you have a partner in crime 😉

GIRL SCOUT

I love this costume a little too much. It feels so retro and brings back memories from my childhood.

For this costume, the sash is the key piece. If you’re lucky, you’ll still have your Girl Scout sash somewhere in your house. If you don’t still have it, you can probably find one at a local thrift store. If not, you can easily make your own by sewing some fake “badges” on a piece of green felt or fabric. If you want to skip the sash, tie a green scarf around your neck.

The rest of the outfit is pretty simple. I would recommend an all-khaki ensemble, or a white tee shirt and plaid or green-colored skirt. For the final touch, add a box of Girl Scout Thin Mints 😉

This is also a great group costume. Gather together a few friends to dress as Girl Scouts with…and soon you’ll have your very own troop!

I hope you liked these DIY Halloween costume ideas! What are you being this year? Are you going to any Halloween parties?

I was recently introduced to Nicole Smartt, a living, breathing success story. This girl knows her stuff.

Nicole wrote a book, From Receptionist to Boss: Real-Life Advice for Getting Ahead at Work, and it has become an Amazon Bestseller (for good reason). Nicole “started her career fresh out of high school at a local staffing firm, where she worked as a receptionist. In a very short time, she worked her way up to business services manager where she oversaw the clerical placement division.”

Nicole’s book, From Receptionist to Boss: Real-Life Advice for Getting Ahead at Work, shares her story of success and instructs others how to move up in the work world. The book is described on NicoleSmartt.com as having “dozens of priceless insights into the life of a woman who has succeeded independently and strived for everything she has achieved. From Receptionist to Boss is a comprehensive guide to not only working hard but also working smart. Nicole has given her keys to success, from tips on time management to taking risks and overcoming doubts and negativity. All of her advice is broken down into easy-to-digest chapters, compiled into a quick read, giving you a head start on your time management.”

Nicole gave me a copy of the book to read, and I couldn’t put it down. It felt so genuine and personable to me, and I learned something new on almost every page. Nicole has a whole chapter dedicated to social media tactics in business, and I learned new things…and I am a social media manager.

This book is AWESOME. I’ve read a decent amount of career/self-improvement books, but this has quickly become one of my all-time favorites. Nicole is extremely real, down-to-earth, and unassuming. Unlike a lot of other career books, Nicole realizes the importance of first being a good person, before being a good businesswoman. One of my favorite quotes from the book was from her chapter on networking:

“If you want greatness in your life, then you need to surround yourself with great people. If your goal is to become a better person, a smarter person, a more fulfilled person, then surround yourself with individuals who possess those qualities.”

Nicole is so generous and was able to gift me with another signed copy of her book to give away to YOU, my awesome readers 😉

It’s free to enter the giveaway, and I will pay for all of the shipping/etc. All you need to do to win a copy of From Receptionist to Boss: Real-Life Advice for Getting Ahead at Work is enter using the Rafflecopter form below. This giveaway will stay open until August 24th.

Good luck!

Information is so readily available to us nowadays, that it can sometimes get overwhelming. Anything we want to know, we can Google within a few seconds. With podcasts, YouTube videos, Google searches, and more…who has time to sit down and read whole books anymore? Especially ones about self-growth or entrepreneurship?

This girl. Seriously, I’m a strong believer that we should all make time to sit down, get real with ourselves, and learn something new…the “old-fashioned” way. Books. I digress.

Even if you only have time to read one of these books, I would still highly recommend it. The books for entreprneurs listed below really changed the way that I approached entrepreneurship and taught me a lot of different things about myself. These are books for entrepreneurs that are definite must-reads!

Must Read Books for Entrepreneurs

4 Must-Read Books for Entrepreneurs

1. GIRLBOSS

This book is worth the hype. First of all, I love Sophia. I’ve loved Nasty Gal as a brand before I ever even knew who Sophia was and that she was the awesome founder. Once I heard (read?) her story, I couldn’t get enough. Seriously…I follow her on multiple social media networks and listen to her podcast religiously. Sophia is so smart and the true definition of a ruthless entrepreneur. She never let her current situation affect how she looked at her life and aspirations. She is transparent in this book and tells you exactly how she went from selling clothes on eBay to building a huge, expansive empire.

2.Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

I listened to this one as an audiobook once on a 6-hour Megabus journey heading from Chicago to Cleveland. Needless to say, the trip was grungy and gruesome. However, this book opened my mind and expanded my vision so much further than the dingy Megabus I was on.

3. Leave Your Mark: Land Your Dream Job. Kill It in Your Career. Rock Social Media.

I received this book as a birthday present this past year, as I was attracted to the pretty cover art. Yes, I’m guilty of judging a book by the cover. However, in this situation, it turned out to be in my favor. This book really helped me jumpstart my freelance career of being a social media manager, specifically because of the way the book caters towards social media lovers. It’s easy and light to read, but has solid content and tips throughout.

4. You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life

Jen Sincero deserves to be fanned with palm leaves and fed grapes for the rest of her days because of this book. Quite possibly my favorite book on this list, You Are a Badass helps you connect to “source energy” and really get the most out of the awesome life you have been given. Jen is HILARIOUS, and I would often find myself laughing out loud. From a book. That doesn’t happen often for me, people.
